Works beautifully with natural plant lake pigments!

I'm not an experienced screen printer by any stretch. However, I am a plant person and have been making a lot of lake pigments from the dye plants I grow. I really wanted to try screen printing with them after learning about it in a workshop. I found this ink when searching for clear water-based ink and it works BEAUTIFULLY with my plant lake pigments! I don't even have "real" screens, but instead used it with "mesh stencils." I have no idea what gauge the mesh is, but just to say, this stuff seems pretty versatile to me since it worked great with the "easy" mesh stencil application and I didn't need anything special! One thing that was a little weird, though not a knock on the product- just some mysterious chemistry- is that I added some ferrous sulfate (iron) crystals to the ink after I successfully mixed in the pigment. Iron shifts natural dyes to make them darker and "saddens" the color (think yellow shifting to khaki/olive). It DID do that, but what was weird is that it immediately LIQUIFIED the ink! Like- pure liquid viscosity! I had to run and pick up my kid, so left it out on the glass palette where I was mixing and it had thickened-up again when I got home. But another mystery of chemistry is that it was now a shade somewhere between the original shade and the dark (but liquid) shade. Ha! I can totally work with this now that I know what to expect, but super interesting.

Deena, We appreciate the time you took to leave us this awesome review. If you've got any pictures of the prints you've successfully done, we would LOVE to see them. It's always interesting to see what our customers are experimenting with and on. Thanks again& Happy Printing - Nick from Ryonet
