Every screen printer knows the frustration of a print that doesn't hit the mark. Often, colors look dull on dark garments or the final print feels rough because of fibrillation. Most of the time, the issue isn't the top colors; it's the foundation of the print.

To help printers overcome these challenges, Shirt Show is hosting Superbase '26, an immersive, hands-on education event dedicated to mastering the white underbase.

Event Details: Superbase '26

This event is built for anyone actively screen printing who wants better results. Whether you are a newer printer trying to figure out why your whites aren't hitting, or a seasoned professional refining high-production workflows, the training at Superbase '26 applies to you. The event is intentionally small, limited to about 60 attendees, to ensure every station rotation is valuable and focused.

  • WHEN: Sunday, May 17 - Monday, May 18
  • WHERE: ROQ.US Tech Center | Clermont, FL
  • WHAT TO EXPECT: Immersive education, station rotations, and live demos covering the entire printing process.

Darkroom Training and Exposure

Kevin Kauth from SAATI will lead a darkroom station focused on proper screen prep and coating techniques. You will learn about Emulsion Over Mesh (EOM) and how to dial in exposures for your specific setup. Whether you are using traditional exposure units or CTS technology, a perfect stencil is the first step to a perfect base.

Mesh Selection Deep Dive

Frank Binetti from GSF will break down the differences between standard and thin thread screen printing mesh. You will see firsthand how mesh geometry directly impacts ink deposit, opacity, and the overall feel of the print. Selecting the right mesh is essential for managing your white ink usage and quality.

Press Variables and Live Demos

Led by John Magee from Avient, this station covers the critical on-press variables that affect your white print. You'll dive into squeegee angle, durometer selection, and pressure settings. While some demos use automatic presses, the principles of ink control apply to manual printing as well. Understanding these variables ensures your underbase is smooth and consistent every time.

Screen Reclaim Best Practices

Alex Mammoser from Easiway will focus on starting the process right with proper screen cleaning and prepping. Using the right cleaning chemicals prevents common issues like pinholes and ensures your mesh is ready for a new coating of emulsion.

The Rundown: Schedule and Logistics

Night one kicks off with a welcome happy hour on Sunday, May 17. It is a great opportunity to connect with other shop owners and printers, talk shop, and enjoy good food and drinks before the training begins. Day two is the full camp experience, starting with introductions and moving straight into station rotations. A cookout lunch is included, and the day finishes with a look at new equipment and tools from ROQ led by Buck Premo and Mike Dolph.

For those traveling to Clermont, FL, a room block is available at the Hampton Inn & Suites (2200 East Hwy 50, Clermont, FL 34711). You are responsible for your own transportation to and from the airport and the hotel.

Why Underbase Education is Everything

The underbase is the most critical part of a print on dark apparel. If the base isn't dialed, no top color will fix it. Mastering this skill improves consistency across every job you run, reduces fibrillation, and ensures a retail-quality finish. Superbase '26 provides the technique and process knowledge needed to level up, regardless of the brand of equipment you use in your shop.
