Screen Printing Magic for the 'Wizard of Oz' at McDaniel High

Jamie Leinbach
As a parent and Ryonet employee, my life often revolves around two vibrant worlds; family and screen printing. These realms beautifully intersected recently with 'Wizard of Oz the Musical,' performed by the talented students of McDaniel High School in NE Portland, Oregon. As a screen printer and Remarketer at Ryonet, I'm lucky to have access to state-of-the-art printing equipment, which was exactly what the kids at McDaniel High School needed to pull off one of their most successful fundraisers.

When the opportunity to collaborate with Gateway Church on their “Run for the Hungry" event came knocking at Ryonet's door, we couldn't wait to roll up our sleeves. Tasked with creating custom long sleeve shirts for the event, we found ourselves fueled by the initiative's noble cause, as highlighted on Gateway's Missions and Outreach website.

Boyd Creative's Print Shop Transformation and the Automatic Advantage

Since we last interviewed Boyd Creative six months ago, they have gained 10x the square footage in their new commercial space with a ROQ automatic and accessory equipment. They could barely keep up with orders and had to either upgrade their manual to a Riley Hopkins 300 8x6 or transition to a more extensive shop with an automatic press. In this blog,  Boyd Creative Print Shop pulls back the curtain on that process to share their fresh perspective on how to put plans in place for success as you scale up.

This is typically seen through our role in providing top-notch screen printing equipment and supplies, enabling printers to thrive in their businesses and hobbies. However, every so often, we get an opportunity to switch gears; we transition from being the supplier to becoming the printer.

Graphics Pro Expo 2023: Here’s What You Missed

Jacelyn Wedman

Imagine this: you walk into a conference center in Portland, Oregon, finding yourself surrounded by creative entrepreneurs just like you. On your left, a stunning print on a t-shirt catches your eye. That can’t be screen printed, can it? You walk over to check it out. A team member hosting the booth walks over to chat with you. It’s Mark, the sales rep you’ve spoken to dozens of times on the phone. You’re finally getting to meet him in person. You chat for a while, and Mark finds a shirt in your size of that amazing design you were admiring.

But did you imagine it at all? Nope, it was real! And it happened just a week ago, at Graphics Pro Expo (GPX) 2023. Here’s the scoop on the trade show.

Should You Go Auto or Hire Another Printer?

Boxes of shirts are stacked from the floor to the ceiling. You’re covered with pallet adhesive and ink. Your wrists ache with pain, your legs are numb, fingers are stiff. You pause, staring at the 716th shirt you printed that day. You stare at the stack of t-shirts behind the press, printing 1,500 to be exact. The clock reads 11:17 PM. This order is due tomorrow. You look down and sigh, staring at your cracked, callous hands. This is the 12th time you’ve had to work late to finish a high-volume order this month. You can’t take it anymore. Something has got to change.

So, you, the printer, have two options. Hire another printer or go auto. But which should you do? Let’s explore these options so you can decide which is best for your growing shop.

Face masks aren't going away. Businesses are buying them for their employees. Citizens are wearing them when they run errands. Face masks are a way people can contribute to protecting others, slowing the spread, and flattening the curve. As the demand for face masks rises, so will the need for personalization on the face masks. In our latest video, CVO Ryan Moor shows how to tackle screen printing on cloth face masks.

Face masks are booming right now. To cater to the current market, printers are offering face masks, giving the option to personalize them. While fulfilling face mask orders does help sustain a business, it won't completely replace the revenue other print jobs had brought it. If your business is printing on masks, but doesn't have the funds for a fancy face mask platen, Adam Funderburg of Brainless Tees created a DIY face mask platen and explains how to build the platen in their video.
